First released in 1982, the AutoCAD program quickly became a valuable tool for the architecture, mechanical engineering, and manufacturing industries. It was unique in that it was the first CAD program to run on the Microsoft Windows platform and could be used to draft three-dimensional (3D) models.

The CAD Concept

When Autodesk started AutoCAD development, the company’s first aim was to produce a 3D modeling application. This was long before the availability of 3D scanners, stereo cameras, or other types of input devices. 3D modeling was a new concept in CAD technology. If a simple 2D drawing could be used to show the geometry of a shape or a complex diagram was used to describe a mechanical system, then why did 3D modeling need to be invented?

The answer is that CAD should be intuitive. Because most 2D drawings were still being created by hand, making changes was a complex process. The introduction of AutoCAD marked a significant change in CAD and introduced a new paradigm for CAD software. A streamlined drafting process and an improved drafting user interface resulted in a new method of drawing—the software-based approach.

A 3D object was created in the software application. The application allowed the user to modify and manipulate that object as if it were 3D using the computer mouse, which was relatively new at the time. As these changes were made, the software could save the object and even project it to paper and other media for output to other users.

The program was able to keep a running record of all the changes that were made to an object. In this way, the CAD drawing could be modified later without having to start over. Because the drawing could be saved and later modified, the object could be used as a reference model for other similar objects.

The software allowed a 3D object to be shared among users. An object could be shared by email, printed out, or drawn on screen with other users. Once the object was drawn, the object was released to the individual users. Changes made by other users could be merged into the original model without losing the original drawing.

Another feature of 3D modeling was that it was much easier to connect objects together than with 2D drawings. AutoCAD allowed users to link the parts of a model by defining the joining line using the computer mouse. Because the lines of the model were all represented as vectors, it was easy to add and subtract them.

Since the release of AutoCAD 2009, its “Timeline” feature can automatically save an assembly of drawing views into a PDF or DWG file format. This feature is supported in AutoCAD 2011, AutoCAD LT 2011 and later releases. For instance, an assembly of viewports can be saved as an AutoCAD DWG file, or a feature can be saved as an AutoCAD LT 2009 or later assembly.

Some features are only available in the Professional, Enterprise, Architect and Architectural subscription products, while some are only available in AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT. These features include:
Geometry editing
Raster and vector image editing
Surface modeling
Plotting and printing
Drawing templates
Batch editing of drawing elements
Support for a wide range of formats including JPG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, and CAD
Improved interface, including:
The ability to control the main application window using a mouse
Ability to create dashboards
Ability to create or edit labels
Ability to copy objects and groups
Ability to create multi-pane workspaces
Ability to plot on multiple monitors and remotely
Improved accessibility
Ability to perform hyperlinks to other drawing files

Supported drawing file formats include: AutoCAD, AutoCAD LT, AutoCAD MEP, SolidWorks, Inventor, AEC formats, and many more.

Subscription products and features

For architectural or landscape design projects, it is important to have access to updated information. In addition, the information needs to be saved so that it is available when one returns from the field. AutoCAD features a number of tools that allow users to create a schedule of work and customize a document for specific building types. These tools are available in all AutoCAD products.

Subscription products and features include:
Schedule of Work: This tool creates a work order list that can be printed as needed. It can also be used to create a schedule of a project for any number of people or organizations.
Architecture: These tools allow the creation of detailed drawings to support the planning and documentation of a project. This includes creating drawings for architectural and landscape design projects, construction scheduling, and presenting plans and specifications to clients or clients’ design consultants.
Geometry Modeling: The application can be used to create and update a model of a building, landscape or any other object. It has tools to generate

On Windows 7+
Right click on the icon or run it from the command prompt with the /m option.
Now run the executable of Autocad from the command prompt with the /m option as shown below.
If you are running Windows Vista or Windows XP, download the latest version of Autocad from Autodesk and install it.

From the Autocad GUI:
Double click on AutoCAD.exe in the Start menu.
Activate it, if you are asked to.
From the file menu (Menu), select Load.
Browse to the file you have downloaded. The default location is “c:\Program Files (x86)\Autodesk\AutoCAD 2009”.
Click OK.

A highly sensitive DNA-based detection system for nucleic acid aptamers: transduction-mediated signal amplification.
A novel DNA-based detection system that exploits the thermodynamic and kinetic stability of a fully double-stranded DNA platform has been developed for sensitive detection of nucleic acid aptamers. This system makes use of the fact that single-stranded DNA can be generated by strand separation and then displaced into a target solution by an equivalent amount of double-stranded DNA. After addition of target DNA to a solution of the functionalized DNA nanostructures, the aptamer-target DNA duplex is formed and displaced into solution by a second equivalent amount of duplexed DNA. Thus, a cascade reaction that occurs in solution can be visualized by measuring the intensity of the fluorescence of the fluorophore-labeled hairpin DNA as an indirect indicator of the amount of target DNA. With this transduction-mediated amplification system, we can achieve detection of picomolar concentrations of target DNA in a dynamic linear range of 3 orders of magnitude. The detection sensitivity of the developed system could be further improved by combining this signal amplification method with an in situ amplification method such as rolling circle amplification. This simple DNA-based detection system should be applicable to various DNA-based detection schemes such as DNA-based affinity chromatography.O.J.
